I graduated with an MSc Information Systems Management from NUI, Galway in 2010 and have been working for BearingPoint since.
Currently, I provide technology consulting services to a major public services client. My responsibilities centre around systems analysis, object-oriented development and systems integration – all through the Agile Software Development methodology.
BearingPoint is a fantastic place to gain experience as a graduate – especially in terms of initial training and well-structured performance management programmes. The learning and development experiences BearingPoint offer are a great way to start off a successful career.
Each month a “priority list” of work items is produced by our Business Analysts in collaboration with the client. A work item could be a defect or an upgrade/enhancement to the system. Therefore, a normal day tasks me with the following:
- Investigate the work item
- Estimate the amount of work involved
- Collaborate on potential solutions with the Business Analysts and the client
- Develop and test the work item
- Assist system testing and user acceptance testing cycles
That said, with a couple of thousand users of our system ranging from very different business areas, ‘normal’ days are few and far between.
Outside the office
I play guitar in a band in my local area back home and am a keen student of TaeKwon-do!
I’m currently on the Sports and Social committee where each month we plan various types of events ranging from clay pigeon shooting and hover craft racing to more highbrow events like theatre nights or wine tasting. All of this along with subsidised club membership means my couch and I rarely see each other!
