My Role

I joined BearingPoint after learning that they were one of the top 50 system integrators in Europe. I wanted a role that was varied, challenging and team-based, and my current position is exactly that. As Scrum Master for a team of seven, my job is to ensure that they can excel at theirs. This means everything from assigning the day’s tasks, reporting progress and problem solving. The project is agile, delivering product every two weeks, so deadlines are tight and the pace is fast. The task of smoothing the path for the team so that we can deliver on time, to budget and to the quality required is essential.

Normal day

Every day is different with a variety of challenges and tasks. We start with a morning team stand-up meeting, where everyone recalls what they did the previous day and reports on any issues. At the daily progress call with the client, I summarise where we are and ask for updates on dependencies and requirements. After that, it’s back to reviewing the requests for the next sprint and scheduling in the tasks. I then typically liaise regularly with the testing team, arrange client demonstrations in-sprint and interrogate the test data to ensure we’re on track. I design the database for the next sprint’s work and discuss it with the developers.

Outside the office

Having moved to Ireland from the UK, I’m still discovering places and people and putting down roots. I enjoy theatre, walking and dream of being proficient in multiple languages, but I’m still working on that one!
